Battery Mechanical Engineering

Garden Grove, California, United States - Harbinger Motors

  • Used CATIA CAD software to design parts, assemblies and drawings with GD&T

  • Designed pneumatic inspection jig to improve incoming part inspection

  • Jig performed fit testing, HIPOT testing and leak testing at the same time

  • Performed tensile testing on adhesives for HIPOT foam adhesion

  • The final design increased the inspection process by a factor of 10

  • Assisted assembly process of the first wave of Beta Battery packs

  • Designed and 3D printed tools to increase safety for HV pack assembly

  • Designed mass-representative battery pack modules for vibration testing

  • Designed a pressure restriction device to limit the incoming pressure of Water-Ethylene-Glycol (WEG) from the pack for pressure testing

  • Designed consumer vehicle parts to mount pack connectors as a mock pack

  • Effectively did fastener torque calculations with variables such as different washer types, different materials and fasteners

  • Used GD&T to create/update part drawings in SolidWorks PDM

  • Reviewed drawings and parts to qualify new part manufacturers

  • Created designs for opto-mechanical test jigs that were 3D printed and used to test optical power density

  • Collaborated with in-house machinists to improve parts using DFM

  • Completed a redesign on an existing assembly to decrease the failure rate

    • Redesigned product to prevent scrapping over $140K of failed assemblies, and brought some failed samples “back to life”

  • Performed optical, speed, and vibration testing to validate the effectiveness of the new design

  • Redesigned drawer organizers in SolidWorks and AutoCAD to be laser cut and sent to customers

  • Repaired and debugged mechanical and electrical faults on devices by replacing parts, machining parts, and resoldering components

  • Designed and manufactured a Mini-Sumo robot in SolidWorks and sourced the electrical components required for the device

  • Currently a senior team member and technical advisor to help give feedback to designs and DFM

  • Designed enclosures in SolidWorks

  • Researched and planned potential thermal management system for the main propulsion system and battery of the pod

  • Supervised and managed overall team projects such as the pod guidance system and aerostructures team
